Rules & Regulations
UPDATING RULES OF KOMODO ULTRA 2023
- Komodo100 2023 as planned to be held on 13 - 14 July 2023.
- The race committee obeys the official regulations/permits issued by the government
- If requested by the authorities, participants are required to submit a Covid-19 free letter.
- The race committee is not responsible if there are losses incurred/borne by the participants if the race is canceled. (For examples ticket fees and accommodation costs made by participants independently / not booked through the committee).
- Regulations and conditions may change regarding the dynamic conditions.
- The race committee's decision is FINAL and binding and cannot be contested for any reason. Changes in decisions can be made at any time.
- The race committee assumes you consciously and voluntarily AGREE with the points made and the changes that will occur in the future due to the pandemic.
- The committee assumes you consciously and voluntarily AGREE and UNDERSTAND the points of the rules that have been made and the possible changes and additions in the future due to the pandemic. When you are REGISTERING, it means that you are AGREE to the rules.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Participants will be asked during registration to provide details of the qualifying event name and time result record.
- 100K: Participants are required to have completed an ultra trail race with a minimum distance of 50K (trail or road).
- 50K: Participants are required to have completed an ultra trail race with a minimum distance of 25K (trail or road).
- 25K: Participants are required to have completed a road race 10K. But runners are strongly advised to educate themselves with the nature and challenges of trail run.
- 10K: No Qualification, fill in anything on the link. But runners are strongly advised to educate themselves with the nature and challenges of trail run.
- Participants are required to go through a medical examination with a doctor at a hospital of their own choosing and have the supplied medical certificate filled in, signed, and stamped by the doctor.
- Organizers reserve exclusive rights to approve/deny registration, including the right to award dispensation (with careful consideration) for those that do not meet the qualification criteria.
TERMS AND CONDITIONS
- You understand the unique nature and requirements of competing in an ultra-long distance trail running race. You will be running in the dark of early morning and all day through mountainous terrain and have undertaken the necessary training to compete in such a race.
- You will be responsible for yourself and have the ability to deal with any problems that may be encountered during the race.
- You are able to deal with, on your own without assistance, deteriorating weather conditions (low temperatures, strong winds, and rain) and other troubles expected when traveling across mountainous terrain.
- You are able to deal with extreme fatigue, internal organ, and digestive problems, muscle pain, mild physical injuries, and psychological problems on your own.
- You fully understand that you are responsible for overcoming the above conditions 1 to 4 on your own and that it is not the responsibility of the race organization.
- You are fully aware that when participating in an outdoor activity such as this race, your safety depends on your own skills and abilities.
- Video/television footage, photos, articles, race results, etc. may be used and/or shown in newspapers, television, magazines, the internet, pamphlets, etc.
- You understand and agree that these rights belong to the race organization and may be used for these purposes.
REFUND POLICY
- Any cancellations are not allowed when your registration status is approved and paid. This also means that we are prohibited to use other runner's BIB for insurance and qualifications reasons. You will be disqualified and banned for 1 event race when you are running with another runner's BIB number and the real bib number holder will be banned for 2 other this event race.
- When your registration status is paid and your BIB number issued then you are prohibited to downgrade or upgrade the race category.
EMERGENCY ASSISTANCE & CONSIDERATION FOR OTHERS
- If during the race, you encounter another runner or staff member who is injured or sick and unable to move on their own, please give priority to assisting that person by telling race staff for assistance.
- The race is located in public/private property places. Please be mindful and share the trial with others at all times. There will be “no passing sections” signs along the racecourse where you will be prohibited from passing other runners and hikers.
- Do not damage any property located along the racecourse.
AID STATIONS & OUTSIDE SUPPORT
- Food and drinks will be provided as well Aid Stations. Details will be confirmed nearer to race day.
- The food and drinks at the aid stations are only for the racers.
- Non-registered racers may not run alongside racers (No pacers allowed).
- Outside support by family and friends is not allowed.
- You are allowed to buy food/drinks from the food stall/warung along the race route.
MEDICAL ASSISTANCE DURING THE RACE
- In order to ensure race safety, the race organizer will prepare and arrange for rescue and medical assistance during the race. However, each participant must recognize and understand that there are risks that may result in injuries and/or accidents associated with trail running. You are responsible for yourself and will be participating in this race at your own risk.
- Emergency and first aid tents staffed by a doctor and/or nurse will be located at pointed aid stations. All aid stations will have radio communication to race headquarters.
- Emergency rescues/procedures will be available to racers as well all those involved in the race (e.g. staff, supporters).
- Please note that, depending on the area, it may take a long period of time for help to reach you.
- If you receive emergency medical assistance from a rescue crew and/or doctor, please make sure that you get examined by a medical expert at a hospital after the race. Please contact the race organizer center to let them know of your condition after the medical examination.
- Doctors and rescue staff have the authority to stop a runner from continuing the race.
- If you drop out of the race, you can continuing walk by taking a shorter path back to the finish line on your own.
- Depending on your condition, an emergency evacuation may be required. This evacuation will be at the expense of the person being rescued. For all racers must obtain adequate travel insurance coverage for the duration of their stay.
RACECOURSE MARKERS
- The racecourse will be marked using marking tapes and signs. Race staff will also be positioned along the course. Dangerous areas up in the mountains will be marked by ropes and patrolled by staff in order to reduce risk.
- (Note: Permission has been obtained from the appropriate landowners and property managers to put up temporary signs and marking tapes)
- The marking tapes will always be placed along the route, at branches, grasses, or bushes. And it will always be on your left side along the race route. But it will be possible that the marking will be placed on your right side if there's no possibility to put it on the left side (ex: ravine or valley)
- For the route that will be passed at night time, we will add an extra reflector at the marking tapes.
- Racers will be stopped at road intersections. Please follow the directions given by the race staff at these intersections.
- The above signs and markers will be set up just before the race and will be immediately removed after the race.
DROPPING OUT OF THE RACE
- If you decide to drop out of the race, you must notify race staff. Please remove your race card/bib and report to a race staff member so that the race Organizer Center can be notified. Once you’ve dropped out of the race, you will not be able to re-start.
- Remember to keep your race card with you as you will need it to retrieve your bags from the bag storage area.
GEAR AND EQUIPMENT
A. MANDATORY
- BIB number has to be always visible during the race and placed in front of the runner's body part (you are not allowed to fold, modified or placed your BIB number on your running shorts). If you're using windproof jackets make sure that the BIB number is still visible.
- Suitable apparels and equipment for cold weather and rain (long sleeves, leggings, jacket, mitten, gloves, buff, light raincoat), assess your own needs for this.
- Mobile phone (Advised to get a prepaid local number with a data plan, available at shops around race central. If using a number that is different from your registration, please inform organizer)
- Hydration Carrier, minimum capacity 500 mL, must be filled-up before START, and to be refilled at the water station. Water bottle is not acceptable
- Personal food (for example energy gels, bars, chomps, powders, dates, bread, etc)
FOR 100K AND 50K:
- Headlamps with functional battery + spare battery.
- Flashing reflector light, put this light on your backpack during the race so that cars will be able to see you at night.
- Survival/Emergency Blanket of 1.40m x 2m minimum
- Whistle
- Self-adhesive elasticated bandage which can serve as a bandage or strapping (minimum 100 cm x 6 cm)
- Personal cup 150 ml minimum. We do not provide cups at the water stations in effort to reduce waste garbage.
- Basic Aid-Kit, and personal medicines (e.g. for allergies)
- Printed map for 25K, 50K, and 100K.
- It will be best for you just to carry a small amount of money on a small note.
B. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED
- Glasses.
- Gaiter will be very useful due to sandy conditions in many parts.
- Buff or multi head-ware or mask, in case of a sandstorm.
- Trekking Poles.
- Life, accident, or travel insurance.
- PLEASE VIEW THESE GEARS AND EQUIPMENT LISTS AS MORE FOR SAFETY NECESSITY INSTEAD OF BEING JUST COMPULSORY ITEMS.
DROP BAGS
There will be drop bags for :
- 100K category : TBA
- There will be no drop bag station for 50K, 25K and 10K categories.
PROHIBITED ACTIONS
- A racer may be disqualified or penalized at any time during the race for the following reasons:
- Taking shortcuts and/or running off the trails.
- Not carrying the mandatory equipment.
- Throwing garbage onto the course.
- Receiving outside support.
- Running with people who are not officially registered in the race as racers.
- Cheating (e.g. using other means of transportation, using substitute runners, and other unlawful actions).
- Not abiding by the instructions given by official race staff including doctors, nurses, and emergency staff.
- Continuing to run after the cut-off times.
- Doping and the use of prohibited drugs.
- Racer and Race Organization Responsibilities
RACER RESPONSIBILITIES

- You will be responsible for yourself and have the ability to deal with any problems that may be encountered during the race.
- You are able to deal with, on your own without assistance, deteriorating weather conditions (low temperatures, strong winds, and rain ) and other troubles expected when traveling across mountainous terrain.
- You are able to deal with extreme fatigue, internal organ, and digestive problems, muscle pain, mild physical injuries, and psychological problems on your own.
- You are fully aware that when participating in an outdoor activity such as this race, your safety depends on your own skills and abilities.
RACE CANCELLATION
- The race organization reserves the right to cancel or cut-short the race for the following reasons:
- Weather warnings sent by the meteorological agency
- The inability to ensure runner safety due to risks such as landslides and rockfalls along the course.
- Natural disasters (or declared warnings issued by the “BMKG-Badan Meteorologi Klimatologi Geofisika ) In such a case, the racecourse cannot be changed to continue the race, nor will the race be postponed to a later date.
- The decision as to whether or not the race will be canceled will be made on the day before the race or on the day of the race. This will be communicated via the official race website.
- In the event of an earthquake, hurricane/typhoon, flood, incidents, accidents, and/or epidemics/pandemics, the race organization reserves the right to make judgments and decisions regarding the shortening/canceling of the race, whether or not there will be refunds, the amount, and the method of communication. (Please refer to our updating rules regarding the COVID-19 pandemic above).
MISCELLANEOUS
- The race organizer is entitled to revoke the winner's title or finishers if cheating or violations is found later on.
- The race organizer's decision cannot be contested, yet is binding and final.
- The race organizer is entitled to add or change the rules and regulations if deemed necessary. All the changes will be notified through the website.
